Details: | Nitrate Sampling: I spoke with Carla (owner/operator) in regards to her extremely high nitrate levels observed above MCL (29.0). Carla was unaware of her nitrate result but reports that a tenant assisted her in sampling and took the sample from an older RV trailer (the same location where she received a positive coliform result). The owner mentioned sampling at the well, after a storage tank and at the RV as a way to determine if the well or storage tank is contributing to high nitrates. Carla was informed she is required to take a second sample within 24 hours from the same sampling point. We discussed the proper sampling technique and she informed me she would take this sample to make sure it is taken properly. The operator mentioned the UV system is old and that a company (owner/employee named Tom?) will be replacing the UV system. We discussed the potential need for plan review and that the state should be consulted to confirm no plan review is required. We also discussed the possibility UV treatment may not be applicable if the water is determined to have exceedingly high levels of nitrates. The operator knowns to collect samples in a specific specimen bottle obtained from the lab. Public Notification: The operator is aware she will need to inform residents (especially those with children) of exceedingly high nitrate levels. email sent to cklooster@aol.com for Nitrate advisory form. |
