Details: | SUMMARY: Went to evaluate progress made by the water operator in determining contact time DETAILS: Inspected water system. Improvements have been made. Chlorine is entering the system after the filter. Now flow of water is: 1. Water is pumped into large concrete holding reservoir from the river, 2. Water is then sent through a slow sand filter. 3. Chlorine is injected immediately after the filter. 3. Water enters the black 2500 gallon holding tank. 4. Then water is sent through two more filters (inside the building). 5. Then water is treated by a UV light system. 6. Water is then available for consumption. RE: Request that the water operator performs a tracer study to determine contact time: The water operator attempted to perform a test but did not follow a logical method. The operator: Drained the system of Chlorine residual, opened one water faucet at the last point in the water system. Then injected a large dose of Chlorine before the black reservoir tank into the system, then measured time for Chlorine residual to reach the open faucet furthest possible access point from source of Chlorine. The estimate contact time was a little less than an hour. ACTION NEEDED: Water operator was requested to perform another tracer study to determine a more accurate contact time. They are to ensure that water system was fully charged (reservoir tank full) then open all water faucets in the system and inject a large dose of Chlorine into the system before the black tank. Then measure the amount. |
