Details: | SUMMARY: water quality investigation DETAILS: Visited site to try and find why this water system is getting present total coliform samples and zero chlorine residual readings. Jared showed me the water system that consists of one well, a chlorination injection system, a storage tank, water softener and large distribution system. Over the past several weeks Jared has been working on the chlorine feed pump and also installed two new small check valves that are in the lines for the chlorine injection system. He had just replaced one a few hours before my arrival. During my investigation we flushed water that was in the tank, verified the chlorine pump is working properly and started feeding chlorinated water into the system. I also mentioned that due to such a large distribution system and relatively low water use, (nobody drinks the water), that the chlorine residual can easily diminish to zero. I advised Jared to flush the dead end lines regularly to keep fresh water in the large distribution system. The water system is currently not checking daily the residual levels in the distribution systems, I advised Jared to start taking doing this. My best guess is during the fixing of the chlorine feed pump several samples were taken with no or very little chlorine in the water and causing present total coliform results. Now that the chlorine feed pump is working properly, there shouldnt be any more problems. ACTION NEEDED: take chlorine residual levels daily, keep take five routines in Sept 2008. |
