Details: | SUMMARY: Positive coliform tests after shock chlorination DETAILS: Jon Neimand emailed me to say that two of the five Sept samples came back positive for TC, despite the shock chlorination of the system last week. I phoned and verified that his public notice is still posted. We discussed the ideal way to shock the system - which involves flushing the distribution lines to every connection with the highy chlorinated solution. Jon only opened the main distribution lines to flush the chlorine through the system, not the laterals. Many of the vacation home owners have already closed up their units for the season, including valving off their water at the mains. Karen Kelley confirmed that if they are closed for the season, those units are not his concern now. (All the units should flush their water lines after long periods of disuse anyway.) Jon will proceed to shock chlorinate again in a few days. He can flush a few more lines by using the outside hose bibs for units he cannot enter. I also relayed Karens suggestion that he take one sample at the redwood tank next time. Also, she suggested he may want to spread the taking of the 5 required samples out over the month of October. ACTION NEEDED: Await results of next samples after second shock chlorination. |
