| Details: | SUMMARY: Nitrat sample exceeded level of 0.5 MCL (I.e.> 5.49 mg/L) DETAILS: Received alert by fax August 1, 2008. Result collected on 6/12/08 had concentration of 8.8 mg/L. This result is consistent with results for samples over the past year. HRCHD discussed with Phil: Treatment costs, public awareness of point source (e.g. fertilizers for orchards), public awareness of the risks associated with elevated nitrate concentrations and the vulnerable populations. Also, discussed the possibility of a new well to replace the source. Monitoring data for wells in close proximity to a potential new well location will be reviewed to determine if any nitrate impact is observed. If nearby well water is unaffected by the nitrate concentrations, planning considerations will be made. ACTION NEEDED: Sampling schedule expectation is to comply with yearly nitrate sampling-- quarterly nitrate sampling is still not expected or required for the Odell Water Company. They have agreed to increase the number of samples collected during the year to provide additional monitoring.If nitrate values exceed the MCL (I.e.> 10.49mg/L) and adjustment to the chemical schedule will be imposed. | ||
