Details: | SUMMARY: Inspected water system, chlorinated distribution system, collected coliform samples. DETAILS: The system has had coliform violations in June, July, and August. Burnett inspected the system with Karen Spenser and Dustin Delcerto with Baker County Parks, and Ric Martinez with Kinetico in Boise, ID (208-888-7655). We inspected the treatment system which has several components, including: Ozone for oxidation (control of H2S), Kinetico Macrolite Filters, and cation resin water softening. Chlorine breaks down the resin in the water softener so chlorination is not used for treatment. Previous sampling has indicated that the raw well water is coliform negative, and a sample tap at the end of the treatment process has been coliform negative. Therefore the problem seems to be in the distribution system. Public notification for the TCR violation has been posted since June, and RV customers receive a copy of the notice. Several coliform samples were collected from the system, and then the treatment was by-passed so the system could be chlorinated. Calcium hypochlorite powder (50% chlorine) was placed in the 1500 gallon storage tank and a chlorine residual of 4.0 mg/l was measured at the first tap. A chlorine residual of 1.5 mg/l was measured at the far end of the distribution system. ACTION NEEDED: 10/01/2008 - All 6 samples taken were coliform negative. Therefore, public notification is no longer required. DWP to enter the 5 Routine samples in SDWIS. |
