| Details: | SUMMARY: Toluene Detection of 0.006 mg/l on 09/03/08 DETAILS: A routine annual VOC sample taken 09/03/08 indicated the presence of toluene at 0.006 mg/l (Toluene MCL is 1 mg/l). I contacted Martin who wondered if it could have been due to recoating the inside of a tank on 08/17/08 with Sherwin Williams Dura-Plate UHS (an NSF Std 61 product). I contacted a representative from Sherwin Williams who said that the Dura-Plate UHS does not contain toluene and would not off-gas toluene. Martin also thought that the source could have been from when they repainted the outside of the tank using Hamerite spray paint. I told him it is possible, but that we needed more sample results to confirm if the problem is more persistent. I told him that I would send some information regarding the health effects of Toluene exposure and that he should begin quarterly sampling. ACTION NEEDED: System to begin a series of quarterly entry point sampling for Toluene for 4 consecutive quarters, with the first sample to be taken before 12/31/08. Results will dictate future monitoring and/or treatment requirements. System is to report any detections in the annual consumer confidence report. | ||
