Details: | SUMMARY: Boil Water Notice Lifted DETAILS: A total of 6 coliform samples taken for the Westport/Wauna area demonstrated an absence of coliform bacteria. Clatsop County confirmed that the Wauna system periodically shock chlorinates their water system. I told Jo that even though Wauna did not have any coliform positive samples, they were included in the boil notice for Westport, which buys water from Wauna, because the shock chlorination practices could be masking a source water problem. I told Jo that the boil notice was lifted for Wauna but that they would need to discontinue shock chlorinating the system so that we could get some representative sample results. ACTION NEEDED: System to notify customers of the boil notice status and discontinue periodic shock chlorination in order to get more representative results. I contacted our hydrogeologist, Tom Pattee, about evaluating the spring source for the potential of being under the influence of surface water, however, since the spring is not within 500-ft of a surface water source, the normal avenue of evaluation is monthly coliform sampling. |
