Details: | SUMMARY: Site visit to discuss chlorination system DETAILS: Calven Shulda and Dave Hill with Westport Water Association met with myself, Maureen Taylor with Clatsop County, and Dale Merrell with Landesign Group (a consultant hired by Clatsop County) to discuss plans to install continous disinfection for the Peterson Springs just prior to their 100,000 gallon tank. The long term plans are to reconstruct the existing Peterson Springs and develop the new Knapp Springs to meet the demands of both the Westport Water Association (00950) and the Wauna Water District. I recommended that they install a flow proportional chlorination system, a reservoir effluent flow meter, and evaluate the structural integrity of the reservoir and footing to handle the addition of another 8-ft of reservoir wall height. I also mentioned the availability of SRF security grants to install security fencing (this may be delayed until completion of the springs). Contact time is estimated to be roughly 45 minutes based upon a peak instantaneous demand flow estimate of 272 gpm (490 gpcd for 800 residents) a 10 percent baffling factor for the 100,000 gallon tank and plug flow through 1,500 ft of 6" pipe to the first customer. ACTION NEEDED: System to install a flow proportional chlorination system, a reservoir effluent flow meter, and evaluate the structural integrity of the reservoir and footing to handle the addition of another 8-ft of reservoir wall height. |
