Details: | SUMMARY: Owner notified DWS of high turbidity spike DETAILS: Mark called during weekend of January 3rd to report that WTP had experienced spike of turbidity in finished water. Operator had noticed rising NTU in finished water early on Saturday. When NTU reached value of 1.5 operator shut down WTP. The operator described the rising turbidity as a spike lasting approximately 5 to 10 minutes. At the time of the spike the operator was running raw water through 2 of 3 slow sand filters. Operator flushed offline filter 3 prior to starting raw water through filter 3 and allowed to ripen to below 0.8 NTU before changing from waste to clearwell. This happened at approximately 10:30 am. Highest chlorine residual at first customer was approximately 1.7 ppm. Highest NTU at first customer less than 1.3. Given the short duration of the spike this event does not count as exceedence and provided turbidity remains low throughout remainder of month no furter action (Tier 1 or Tier 2 notification) not necessary. ACTION NEEDED: none |
