Details: | I spoke with Linda twice over a several day period, with the final conversation on June 23. She stated all the faucets and drinking water taps at the water system were replaced with new models considered "lead free." She had originally only sampled lead and copper from four classrooms because that had been done before and a "lead free" drinking fountain didn't seem like it would require testing. She questioned whether the regulations make sense, especially sampling at the same location twice or sampling a tap that is supposed to be “lead free.” Through our conversation, it became clear that there is competing information and regulations, where the Dept. of Education doesn't require testing from fountains made after a certain date. I explained that the regulations for public water systems are different and even though the regulations overlap, that the water system monitoring is still required even if testing isn't necessary according to ODE rules. At the end of the conversation, Linda was friendly and promised to collect a fifth lead/copper sample before the end of the month at the drinking water fountain. I explained that another set of five samples must be collected in the second half of the year before monitoring can be reduced and the schedule for treatment installation can be closed. | ||
