Details: | SUMMARY: Algal concerns in raw reservoir DETAILS: Ben called on 7/16 to report that the City is receiving taste & odor complaints, related to algae in their raw reservoir. Ben noticing fine hairs or filaments in water. Ben asked about testing requirements and any appropriate treatment options. I consulted with Laura Boswell of PHealth and Karen Kelley both internally. Forwarded list of labs that analyze for species of algae capable of producing toxins of concern in Oregon as well as public health materials, and indicated to Ben that the City would need to know which algal species is present before adding any algicide. Mentioned that any product must be NSF 60 certified. Ben made contact with Water Management Labs in Tacoma, which can produce results in 10-12 days. In meantime, City turned down chlorine a bit, and published notification that water is safe to drink, is meeting all monitoring/testing requirements, and that City is following up on compaints. ACTION NEEDED: Ben to receive specific bottle from lab this week, then return 500 mL sample overnight to lab, and will await results. DWP to provide assistance once specific algae species results received by City. |
