Details: | SUMMARY: Primary Supply well not pumping at capacity - emergency well may be needed. DETAILS: The primary supply well is providing only about 30% of normal (120 gpm rather than 400 gpm). Therefore the City is planning to connect the old shallow well. A coliform sample taken from the old well showed no coliforms present, and a nitrate sample showed ~8.6 mg/l Nitrate. The shallow well had shown >10 mg/l nitrate in the past. Both wells however, pump directly to the reservoir so the water will be blended before distribution. The city has to install some additional piping to re-connect the old well to the reservoir and will be in doing that the week of July 27. We reviewed disinfection and flushing procedures for activating the connection. The City has been working with Tony Justus of WRD, and WRD has been unable to measure the depth to water in the basalt well. The water may be drawing down to the pump level and therefore the supply has diminished. ACTION NEEDED: City to contact DWP for additional advice prior to activating the old well. |
