Details: | SUMMARY: Status check on SWTR Failure to Filter deficiency DETAILS: Hans Grassauer returned my call today. He took my survey report to a civil engineer in Mapleton (Mike McAlister) some 3-4 weeks ago but has not heard back. He also spoke to Randy Reitz at OR Water Services, and to OAWU (not much help for a state-reg system). Hans is having a hard time sizing up the short- versus long-term costs of choosing a slow sand package filter versus cartridge filters. He asked for other water systems that he could talk to to help determine these costs. He already replaced his chlorine test kit and has been trying to maintain a 1.0 mg/L free chlorine residual. He doesnt remember receiving the electronic copy of the Public Notice template. I reminded him that the engineers in this office (Jay PacPherson and Fred Kalish) were present for his water system survey, and could answer some questions about filtration products and required maintenance. He will tell us which type of filtration system Swisshome chooses by the end of Sept, 2009. I suggested he also give us at that time the estimated dates for plan submittal and treatment installment. ACTION NEEDED: Emailed him the Tier 2 Public Notice Template for Failure to Filter. Gathered examples of other small systems that use either cartridge filters or slow sand, emailed those to him. Because Swisshome is near the threshold for a community water system, I mailed him a copy of the initial monitoring requirement sheets that I made up recently for a system that was becoming an NTNC. I marked on there that Swisshome, as a CWS, would also need to test for radionuclides. I alerted Fred Kalish and Jay MacPherson that they might get product inquiries from Hans. |
