Details: | 07.31.20 - Mr. McNair informs me that their July water sample was delivered to the lab currier on July 28, but was damaged in transport and the Lab was not able to test the sample. The operator will only have an opportunity to collect another sample until Monday, August 3. I explained to the operator that this would still show up in SDWIS as a July violation. An August 3rd sample is counted for the month of August regardless of the reported date. This violation will return to compliance (RTC) after reporting a sample for the next monitoring period (September). Returning the system to quarterly routine sampling was also evaluated. Prior to the July monitoring violation, the system had been routinely sampling for the previous 12 months. They had no E. Coli MCL violations, no coliform investigations required and no coliform investigation violations. However, after sharing what a protected source is with Mr. McNair, he identified a sanitary defect that would not allow them at this time to return to quarterly sampling. There is a parachute chord that extends through the top of the well casing, creating a potential for contamination. Additional information provided via email to help the operator identify other potential deficiencies. Mr.McNair was instructed to correct the issue with the parachute cord and continue collecting monthly samples for the next 12 months. We will re-evaluate their compliance with the requirements to return the system back to quarterly sampling in August, 2021. |
