Details: SUMMARY: Nitrate above 50% at 7.0ppm DETAILS: Spoke to Michelle Byrd at the state about late reporting and to Karen Kelley in Springfield. System has been submitting quarterly nitrate samples for several years. The system has been monitoring wells 1 and 2 and use the well with lowest nitrate reading. They have been drawing samples at the well head and not the entry point. The current alert shows two readings one at 7.0 and one at 5.5. State data shows two readings listed as EP for wells 1 and 2. The operators were advised to submit one sample taken at entry point in the control building after the chlorine injection. They will continue to submit quarterly samples. But only take one sample at the entry point which will represent which ever well is currently being used. The system would like to take individual samples at the wells so they can continue to operate on the well with the lowest reading. It was unclear if those samples could be for the operators reference only or if they would be required to be reported by the lab according to rule. I will check on this for the operator. ACTION NEEDED: Monitor results from the 1st quarter of 2010. Contact Michelle Byrd about the possibility of removing the current violation and the source monitoring question.
