Details: | SUMMARY: Complaint - stained hot water from individual residence DETAILS: Spoke with Ms. Miller about the black, stained color of the hot water in her residence on Daybreak Way in Troutdale. She had her hot water heater inspected, and found a slimey dark sand inside the unit. After bathing, she had felt body aches and flu symptoms. Cats fed solution made from hot water had kidney problems and fell ill. I discussed with City of Troutdale and they indicated that area is fed by well 2, which has had some detectable Manganese values from hard water, that could cause staining in hot water from hot water heaters, but that well 2 was not pumping sand. I relayed information to Ms. Miller. I indicated to her that City had no current or recent water quality violations, and that monitoring was up to date. Steered her to data on-line to track data for City. No other complaints of this nature received in City. ACTION NEEDED: Ms. Miller to await results on hot water from her house that is currently being analyzed for metals and microbial constituents. She will continue to drink bottled water and wash hair in cold water. She may consider replacing hot water heater. I indicated DWP as continuing to provide support as she desired. |
