Details: | SUMMARY: Response to VOC detects in 2nd Qtr 2010 DETAILS: Derrick called regarding detections of Tetrachloroethylene (PCE)-4.32 micrograms per liter (ppb) and Trichloroethylene (TCE)-0.56 ppb, below the respective MCLs at well #6. I indicated that MCL compliance determined by running annual average of last 4 quarters of monitoring data for each chemical. Based on my calculations running annual average was 4.78 ppb for PCE, and 0.59 ppb for TCE (MCL is 5 ppb, 5.49 for compliance for both chemicals). Derrick noted well # 6 has been turned off since Dec 2008, and city not planning on using well #6 this summer. I indicated that tier 2 public notice and treatment would be required if City uses well, and the running annual average is greater than the MCL for either of these chemicals. ACTION NEEDED: Derrick to consult internally with City to determine plans to finish well #9, so that it may be used to meet high summer demand. Well #6 continues to be off-line, City will consult with DWP prior to any considered use of well. City to continue quarterly monitoring of PCE, TCE, and Ethylene Dibromide at well #6 to keep eye on levels. I indicated that if levels are reliably and consistently below the MCL, frequency can be reduced to annually (would apply to TCE - as its below MCL). City to stay on quarterly for all three for now, and will let me know if wish to drop TCE to annually. | ||
