Details:	SUMMARY: Disinfection Byproducts Reduction DETAILS: HBH was contacted by system to provide assistance with the reduction of disinfection byproducts. The district has TTHM levels that exceed the annual average MCL. The district has a well with high iron and hydrogen sulfide. Prior to filtration, the raw water is injected with chlorine and potassium permanganate to oxidize the iron and reduce the hydrogen sulfide levels. I provided written recommendations for the need to decrease the levels of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) prior to the addition of chloride. Recommendations were made to operator to eliminate the use of sodium hyprochlorite prior to filtration. ACTION NEEDED: Further assist operator with the selection of pre-treatment chemical and possible process changes.
