Details: | SUMMARY: Hydrogen Sulfide Issues DETAILS: The system is a HOA is a small water system with 20 connections. The system consists of a low and high service area. The well in the high service areas test high in iron. Treatment of the iron is achieved through the use of an ion-exchange water softener. This unit has experienced repeated failures, causing the affected customers to receive water that is high in iron and hardness. HBH was contacted by Dick Retch, Board Member for system to provide advice on the potential replacement of the failing treatment unit. I met with system Board Members to tour water system and specifically to inspect the water softener that has experienced multiple failures of the 3-way valve switching mechanism. I also discussed issues with Hydrogen sulfide in the wells. I listed different methods of removing hydrogen sulfide with different combinations of filters and aeration. I determined that the best action now is to repair the current system and revaluate the system needs. This will give the system a better sense of how much treatment is necessary. ACTION NEEDED: Assist water system with the potential solutions to the hydrogen sulfide issues, if required |
