Details: | SUMMARY: elevated turbidity at Layng creek wtp DETAILS: Ray called to inform us of an elevated turbidity event that occurred for about 30 minutes at Layng creek WTP. One of the four filters main flow control valve was stuck and personell had to manually open it which caused sediment to be released into the system and caused elevated turbidity from 1-1:30 pm. The CFE NTU was 1.56 at 1 pm and 1.57 at 1:15 pm, by 1:30 it had dropped down to 1.19 NTU. This was a short episode and the event occurred between the required four hour turbidity readings. After several consultations with other DWP staff and managers we decided no public notice was needed due to the very high CT values, (5 miles of 14 inch pipe before first user~400+ minutes) and the fact that the system is in Bin one for LT2, very low if any crypto in the source water, we felt there was no public health threat. ACTION NEEDED: none. |
