Details: | SUMMARY: Loss of system water pressure DETAILS: DWP received email from PUC notifying us that they received calls from customers of the Boulder Creek WS that there were multiple episodes of pressure loss in parts of the water system on July 6th and July 7th. I called Janine to investigate. Janine stated that a water user had run over a irrigation pipe while moving a lawn, breaking the pipe and then left the area without notifying the water system. She believed that sometime following the breakage the reservoir drained to very low levels- possibly resulting in a loss of system pressure to some users. Janine could not tell me exactly when the event occurred but indicated that it was quite possible that it was in the July 6 - 7 time frame. I suggested Janine review the Best Management Practices Guidelines on our website for Service Outages due to Reduced Pressure Events - she said she would. I also reminded her that in the event of reduced pressure, she needs to notify DWP as soon as possible and follow the guidelines for BMP. Given that the system is currently on a boil water notification, and the event occurred approximately 5 days ago, the benefit of additional notification to customers of the system seems questionable. I did emphasize to Janine that it is very important to follow the referenced BMP in the future, particularly once the boil water notification is lifted for the water system. I also suggested to Janine that she check with PUC to determine if they require an incident report from her. ACTION NEEDED: None at this time. |
