Details: SUMMARY: Confirmation samples positive for Ecoli DETAILS: I received voice mail from Matt 6/16/10 that four of five confirmation samples were positive. I spoke to Amy Parmenter and she stated she was not comfortable that the chlorine residuals could be proven to provide an adequate contact time for the disinfection of the Ecoli. She said a boil water notice should be issued and we would have to conduct a contact time evaluation before the boil water notice could be removed. Amy provided a template. A coliform evaluation was conducted and reviewed by Amy. The contact time was found to be sufficient for disinfection. The public notice requirement was removed. Matt stated he believes the testing site for source water is the problem. He stated the sample tap was located in an area that was subject to bat and rodent droppings as well as dirt and debris. He also stated that it was difficult to reach for proper disinfection prior to sampling. Bruce, a hatchery employee will be replumbing the sample tap to make it more accessible for disinfection. The new sample tap and testing should be complete by 6/21/10. Once this occurs, Amy agreed that submitting five more source samples would be prudent. ACTION NEEDED: Review current information on file work with Amy to conduct a contact time evaluation. Wait for results of five additional source samples to be submitted on 6/21/10
