Details: | SUMMARY: Response to Toluene and Ethylbenzene detects DETAILS: I spoke to Martin about two May 4, 2011 detects. Toluene at 0.0007 mg/L and Ethylbenzene at 0.0005 mg/L (the detection limit). Given that we have now 4 consecutive qtrs of toluene, with a running annual average of 0.000525 mg/L, well below MCL of 1 mg/L, I indicated to Martin that frequency can be reduced to once annually, with next sample with 3rd quarter 2012 VOCs. Ethylbenzene detect is right at the detection limit, and that we already have 4 consecutive quarters of ethylbenzene (running annual average of 0.000125 mg/L), the annual variability of the compound has been established. Ethylbenzene to be monitored with VOC suite in 3rd qtr 2012. System has been working with DEQ to notify users in watershed about best management practices for fuel, household and home septic tanks to protect water source in Rock Creek Area, and has contacted forest companies to research spraying practices. ACTION NEEDED: Martin to monitor for VOCs annually during 3rd quarter beginning with 2012. Martin will mail out letters to residents in the watershed first week of June regarding household hazardous and septic waste management pracatices. DWP to continue to research potential sources of compounds through spraying or road application practices. DWP to continue to support Water system in understanding potential source of detects.
