Details: | SUMMARY: Turbidity 95% violation DETAILS: Fort Hoskins Park exceeded 5% of the daily turbidity readings for the month of May and received a violation. I spoke with Al Kitzman on 7/5/11 who said that the unused line to the abadoned Fort Tavern had damaged during a freeze and was losing water which drew down the holding tank at the spring and was agitating the sediment at the bottom. They fixed the break, flushed the lines of sediment, and put a drain in the holding tank to remove the rest of the sediment. They think the agitated accumulated sediment may have been causing the higher turbidity. They are also going to have a contractor go out to clean up the cemented gravel that is allowing more sediment into the spring pipe. The gravel used to be cleaner and he believes used to settle the sediment more. They also changed from a 1 micron "nominal" cartridge filter to a 1 micron "absolute" cartridge filter. Long term plans are to have a contractor out to determine how to construct the spring so that it is only groundwater. A Tier 2 public notice will be issued and a copy sent to me. ACTION NEEDED: Provide copy of Tier 2 public notice to me. |
