Details: | SUMMARY: Corrosion Control DETAILS: The City of Newberg owns and operates the three spring system (Skelton, Snyder and Atkinson Springs) in conjunction with the Oliver Springs. The springs were at one point connected to the City of Newberg water system. The City remains responsible for the system. The system serves 130 people through 52 connections. Copper limits were exceeded in 2009 and 2010. A limestone contactor had been proposed for the system. This selection was due to the fact that there is no power available at the spring site. . DWP recommended a review of the selection of the limestone contactor prior to installation. The City of Newberg has requested assistance from HBH with this review. I met with Russ Reed to review the water quality parameters as well as a pH control pilot test that was completed by the City. Due to the fact that a limestone contactor is not the recommended approach based on EPA Guidance, it was recommended that the City look at the possibility of a copper corrosion based pilot test if they are determined to install a limestone contactor. ACTION NEEDED: Continue to coordinate between City and DWP. |
