Details: | SUMMARY: OERS: Turbidity exceedance DETAILS: [At 1429 hrs friday 12/30/11] Breitenbush Hot Springs [called OERS and ] reported 5.6 NTU at the "back up water system" (?) near Detroit [occurred at 2030 hrs thursday 12/29/11]. At 2110 Breitenbush shut down potable water sources and isolated the system. Then they doused the reservoir with 161 Milliliters of chlorine. At 2200hrs flushed the system and re tested. Test came back PH 6.9 temp 9.7 degrees C residual chlorine 1.5, reservoir is at 10,040 gallons. 2230hrs last night the system was turned back on. At 1300 today the highest NTU was 4.3 NTU the reservoir chlorine 1.0 temperature 9 degrees C PH 6.8. The water system called OERS and OERS notified the DWP today at 3:25 pm-- the water system did not notify the DWP directly. I called the DRC Dean Terry and the system contact, Gwen Healy, and left messages for them to call me. It sounds like they caught it before it went out to distribution, but without talking to them, Im not sure how long the high NTU event was going on before they caught it. Presumably they will call OERs this weekend if the NTU goes over 5 again. ACTION NEEDED: Need to talk to system |
