Details: | SUMMARY: Lead Exceedence Followup DETAILS: I spoke with Annette today regarding the status of the lead exceedence at this facility which occurred 9/9/10. During the last WSS (May 2006) construction was underway and it was noted that new copper piping was being installed throughout the school. The 9/9/10 exceedence was due to a single high sample (all others were ND for lead), and believed to be a non-representative sample - but no paperwork was submitted to support this claim. The facility was instructed to collect water quality parameters which they did on 11/10/10. The results indicated slightly acidic water. In March of 2011, the facility collected 10 samples (including the site which was previously high for lead) and they all came by ND for lead. These results had not been entered into SDWIS because the 3 year lead/copper schedule was still in place, and the sampling period was outside the summer months. To assist in the resolution of this issue, today I ended their 3 year schedule and entered a new 6 month schedule (10 samples) beginning on 1/1/2011. As a result, there March 2011 sample results will be entered into SDWIS. Annette will notify the facility that they must collect another 6 month round in September of 2012 - and that these samples should use the same sample sites used in the March 2010. At the sample time they should also collect water quality parameters (pH and alkalinity). Hopefully, with the next sampling results, the lead issue will be clarified. ACTION NEEDED: None at this time by State. |
