Details: | 11.18.20 On 10.29.2020 the system collected one TG sample and three RP samples. The following month they should have collected 3 temporary routine samples, but instead they collected 2 routine (RT) samples and 1 triggered sample. To correct the issue, a request was sent to DWS Compliance Office to have the sample type for the 2 repeat samples (RP) changed to temporary routines. This sample should be collected by the end of November. I discussed with the operator possible causes of coliform contamination in the well and what to expect going forward. Surface water intrusion into the well seems to be a very likely cause of the multiple positive total coliform samples the system had in the last two months. If this is the problem, shocking the well may not provide a final solution. The operator was told to expect a possible increase in their coliform sampling schedule and also the need to consider treatment (Chlorination) if the system keeps getting positive TC samples. 11.19.20 The operator informed me that he spoke with Bandon Well and Pump who were the original drillers of the well. He was told that water was hit and seen in significant quantities at a very shallow depth in the well. They also think that some surface water is leaking into the well at certain time of the year. The company recommended routine disinfection and to not shock the well because it will not provide any long term solution. For now the operator will proceed with collecting the additional coliform sample required to complete the three temporary routine samples. |
