| Details: | I spoke with the operator of PBG water system regarding the most recent nitrate samples. The system is assigned to take a single nitrate sample per year from the entry point of each well. This means after treatment and before any blending together of the two sources. Both wells produced results at their respective entry points above the alert level of 50% of the 10 ppm MCL. I provided information regarding the chronic and acute health hazards of nitrate via email subsequent to the call. There appears to be fluctuation in the levels of nitrate from these wells. Results as high as 14ppm and as low as <1ppm have been reported. We discussed examining seasonality of result levels. Differences based on season could be related to the weather, neighboring uses of groundwater or recent average rate of groundwater extraction. This business has periods of the year with much higher water usage. The operator seemed interested in taking tests during different quarters in future years. We also discussed methods of nitrate reduction including blending and ion-exchange. |
