| Details: | SUMMARY: System formerly positive for coliform now has teo E coli positives from distrinution. DETAILS: Called operator late Friday 9/21-- he had already put out the boil water notice-- he indicated one of the e coli positives had come from a hose outside the caretaker’s cottage-- stressed the importance of taking clean samples and discussed the sampling schedule now required as outlined in the SDWIS website-- he indicated he’d get them started on Monday. 9/25/12 called operator for status report-- he had not taken samples and was wondering, given the system upgrades that are now in the works, if further sampling was the best use of their resources-- stressed that, especially since they are trying to reinstall a chlorination system, that they need to confirm the presence or absence of e coli, as this would determine exactly what type of chlorination would now be required-- discussed again the importance of getting the proper sampling technique. Other info – Well is old (1958) to 110 feet, tapping into a shallow aquifer, has an 8” casing to 16 feet, and no record of a casing seal-- soils sensitive, surface water close by ACTION NEEDED: Await sampling results-- consult with state as to best option for system upgrades. | ||
