Details: | SUMMARY: Malfunction of Turbidimeter DETAILS: Matt left message on Sunday (11/25/12) reporting that the IFE turbidimeter for the treatment plant (Train 2 operating at the time) had malfunctioned from about noon Thurs until about 11 am Sunday, at which point he redirected the raw water from Train 2 to Train 1 to correct the problem (Train 1 IFE working fine). During this time the CFE turbidimeter was off. The problem with the Train 2 IFE appears to be a electronic signal anomoly leading to 0.000 readings when the turbidity is low. Unfortunately, the plant operator did not think to perform 4 hour grab sample monitoring during the online turbidimeter malfunction - however, there is nothing to indicate a treatment malfunction during this time period, and CT was maintained throughout. Hach had been called out a few weeks ago when a similar anomolous reading occurred with this turbidimeter, and they thought the problem was solved. Matt will submit written report. Matt thinks they will be replacing the Train 2 IFE. I also told Matt that the CFE could be turned on to provide NTU data in the event of a failure in one of the IFEs. ACTION NEEDED: Wait for report - discuss with Chuck Michael the implications of the 0.000 turbidity readings for time between midday Thur to midday Sunday. |
