Details: | SUMMARY: Status of Corrosion Control - Plan Review Update DETAILS: Returned Chucks phone call. He had received "6 month" plan review letter regarding the corrosion control system for the City. We discussed the current status. According to Chuck, although the Sept sampling for lead and copper were good, the City has been having a difficult time operating the plant while maintaining the pH minimum of 7.8 as prescribed in the Conditional Approval letter dated June 6, 2012 (PR 87-2012) - essentially injecting adequate soda ash up front to maintain pH minimum in finished water. Although DWS has not been notified by consulting engineer, apparently they are resigned to add a post filtration soda ash injection to provide for proper pH for corrosion control, but not upset plant treatment operations. They are seeking funding from CDBG for capital improvements. Proposed project will be included in March submittal of updated Master Plan. I told Chuck that a separate submittal of conceptual design should be submitted to DWS as part of plan review correspondence. Due to problems encountered in winter with higher turbidity incoming raw water, it is unclear if the City can add sufficient soda ash to maintain min pH in finished water for corrosion control in next 6M sampling event. ACTION NEEDED: Wait for submittal. |
