Details: | SUMMARY: Sewage spill near Labish Village WS DETAILS: City of Salem reported 1500 gal of sewage a storm drain when a contract accidently bore a hole into a line 4:30 pm 1/10/13. It is unknown where the storm drain went, it could possibly go to a farm field, or a ditch which eventually leads to Clagget Creek. The sewage is currently being deverted and the sewage that spill is being vac trucked up. The city will determine where the sewage went in the AM. Update: 2000 gal of sewage was released. The sewage went to "Labish Ditch", which will eventually go to Claggett Creek and eventually from there the Willamette River. The ciy has taken samples and results wont be back until Saturday. They are lyming the area where the spill occured as well and where the sewage ended up. The Lake Labish Village water commision has water wells in the area and is concerned of possible contamination, though the city doesnt believe the wells will be affected due to the amount that was released and where it ended up. ACTION NEEDED: No action at this time. DWS to determine any appropriate follow up steps as more information is gathered. |
