Details: SUMMARY: email regarding sampling EP per source DETAILS: City of Coquilles sequential use of two water sources requires that chemical monitoring be conducted representing both sources. This can be done by either: A) sampling each one separately while running (as has been Coqilles historic practice before 2011), or B) sampling water blended from the two sources. The later would require that both Rink Creek and Coquille River water be fed into the water treatment plant (WTP), ideally at equal flows, and sampling conducted once that blended water had worked fully through the treatment plant. If using the later approach, to assure samples represent blended water, at least three WTP volumes should be processed before sampling. For instance, if the flow rate is 1,000 gpm and the flocculation, settling, and filter volumes are 100,000 gallons, then three WTP volumes will be processed after 300 minutes (3 * 100,000 / 1,000 gpm). The chemical analyses involved are VOCs, SOCs, nitrate, IOCs, arsenic, nitrite, and radionuclides. These are the analyses for samples from the entry point. Given the respective sampling schedules, Coquille is behind schedule on nitrate and VOCs. Also, it has been 10 years since the radionuclide analyses were last conducted and should be done this year for the two sources, either individually or blended. ACTION NEEDED: none
