Details: | SUMMARY: Annual nitrate sample results above 50% of the MCL at 5.1 ppm DETAILS: Spoke to Kevin Collins who assists with water sytems operations and sent an e-mail to Mark Hazelton the school principal. They were instructed that the system would be placed on quarterly samples for one year. They were instructed to take the next sample in the 3rd quarter of this before September 30, 2013. I reviewed the systems history of nitrate sampling. They have historical results recorded in SDWIS are below 1 ppm to no detections. In my e-mail correspondance to to Mark Hazelton I asked if he had any ideas of what might account for elevated nitrate result. The school is rural with grass fields and christmas tree farms around them. Mark could not account for the elevated results and stated that neighbors harvesting grass and trees use good agricultural practices. I informed Mark and Kevin that after a year of results are received, if the results are reliably and consistenetly below 10 ppm they could return to an annual sampling schedule. ACTION NEEDED: Monitor test results of quarterly samples for the next year. | ||
