Assistance Type: | OTHER WATER QUALITY - Loss of pressure and high nitrates | ||
Reasons: | Coliform |
||
Details: | I met with the three owners of the water system on 1/20/21 to discuss recent events at the water system. The quarterly routine bacterial sample was positive coliform. The repeat samples and source samples are also positive coliform. I asked them to complete a Level 1 investigation. The operator completed the investigation and reported a loss of pressure on 1/4/20. The routine distribution sample was taken on 1/6/21. I would have proceeded with a boil water advisory however the current quarterly nitrate sample taken on 1/6/21 was 9.9 ppm. I could not ask them to post a boil notice due to the high level of nitrate. I worked with Shawn Stevenson who provided an amended "Do not Drink" notice that is in place. They are working with a pump company to shock chlorinate the system however they are concerned about high levels of chlorine in the system as the irrigation system, house connections and gift shop are all supplied through the both wells. They were concerned about chlorinated water in the irrigation system. Shawn Stevenson provided a shock chlorination guide for wells for the operators. We also discussed treatment for the high level of nitrate. They will work to address the bacteria first and then discuss the best options for treating the nitrate possibly with ion exchange. |
