Details: | SUMMARY: Coliform Investigation DETAILS: Douglas County Parks owns and operates a Groundwater System in Cavitt Creek County Park which consists of a single, hand-pumped well. Circuit Rider was contacted by Jon Everett to assist with investigating positive coliform results for both the Cavitt Creek and Mack Brown Parks. As both parks have hand pumped wells, the investigation, including site visit, was conducted at the same time. The park has a hand pump with which water is drawn for drinking water purposes. Research indicated that the hand pump model is no longer recommended for drinking water. This is due to no protective shroud over the piston mechanism. It is likely that this is the source of the coliform contamination. Visited the park and verified that the hand pump is a model no longer used for drinking water. Recommended that the parks department consider replacement of the pump. ACTION NEEDED: Provide further assistance if requested. |
