| Details: | SUMMARY: Background on complaint of brown algae in water DETAILS: An email complaint was received yesterday of brown algae in the water. Since no phone number was provided in the email, a reply email was sent (saved in the systems folder on the PSOB server). The email said the likely observation was of manganese oxide. The well water was tested in September 2012 for manganese and iron. According to Paul, the results were 0.628 and 0.0814 mg/L, respectively. This is a high manganese concentration. Given the chlorination occurring and recent move of the chlorine injection point upstream to increase contact time, it is likely the observation was of manganese oxide, possibly with some iron oxide too.
