Details: | Scott from Neahkahnie reached out to the circuit rider for assistance in regard to possibly lowering their required alkalinity level, and for clarity on their Pb/Cu testing schedule. Neahkahnie is required to maintain an alkalinity level of 50 mg/L for corrosion control. Scott wanted to know if it was possible to have the requirement lowered. The thought was that the 50 mg/L was possibly excessive for corrosion control at Neahkahnie give that they have no history of Pb/Cu MCL exceedances in the past 20 years. Scott also wanted to get some clarity on the frequency and number of sites they are required to perform Pb/Cu testing. Assistance Provided: The circuit rider conferred at length in regard to the alkalinity issue and the monitoring schedules with both Scott and OHA staff. The OHA representative for Neahkahnie formulated a detailed methodology for slowly lowering the alkalinity. The method described required 20 sites and more frequent Pb/Cu testing to ensure that the alkalinity could be lowered and monitored safely. The circuit rider discussed the options put forth by OHA with Scott and suggested that Scott reach out to OHA to solidify a plan moving forward. Follow-Up Actions Needed: The circuit rider is available for follow up assistance if needed. |
