Details: Background/Problem Identification:

Carl Gifford of YRLCWD contacted the circuit rider with a request to provide general assistance with the water system’s issues with DBPs. The distribution system is quite long and also is using a large reservoir far from the water treatment plant.

Assistance Provided:

The circuit rider made a site visit to discuss the DBP issue with the water system operators. The operators noted that several of the “high” DBP readings came from a single lab, with another lab showing smaller (compliant) DBP readings from the same split sample. The circuit rider is suggesting that the next set of DBP samples be split three ways including the two original labs and a new lab to determine which lab may be in error.

The circuit rider is also suggesting moving to UV for primary disinfection, and using chlorination to maintain residual in distribution, possibly in stages.
