Details: | SUMMARY: Petroleum Odor Reported in School Well Water DETAILS: 9/8/14 - Received a call from Topper Schlupe with Malheur ESD. He was informed by another ESD staff person that a petroleum odor had been noticed in the water sometime over the summer at Juntura Elementary School. The source of the contamination was reportedly a leak in the underground piping that connects the boiler to the above ground fuel oil tank located near the well. The piping was reportedly repaired, but the amount of fuel oil leaked is unknown. The school already provides bottled water for drinking, so none of the contaminated water is being consumed. The school district is proposing to discontinue use of the well and connect to another existing well, MALH 52630, located at the schools teacherage southeast of the school. 9/9/14 - Spoke with Juntura School Board Chair Mike Bentz. Informed him of the plan review requirements that must occur before connecting the school to a new water source. Also discussed the 24 hour reporting requirement after discovering contamination at a public water source. ACTION NEEDED: Water system to submit plan review fee, DWS to review plans for connecting to the proposed well. | ||
