Details: SUMMARY: Four of five Temporary Routine microbiological samples for September 2014 were positive for total coliform. I contacted the lab to obtain the needed information and the Klamath County School Maintenance staff to give direction. Disisnection and flushing of the water system was done, a Public Notice was posted, and additional sampling of the system was done. DETAILS: 9-27-14: I received a call from David Waber PH Nurse with Klamath County Public Health that Spring Street Analytical (lab) called the emergency line with information that four of the five temporary routine coliform samples for September were positive for total coliform bacteria. I talked to Maureen of Spring Street Analytical and called Darren Martins with Klamath County School District. Darren and I discussed the procedures to follow including disaffection and flushing of the water system, Public Notice and resampling. I made a rough estimate the one gallon of NSF approved sodium hypochlorite solution would be enough to disinfect the water system. 9-28-14: I talked with Darren. He ask if providing bottled water was required, I told him no because the concern was total coliform. I also told him that I would send him a draft Public Notice to post. 9-28-14:Darren: Attached is a draft Public Notice for Lost River High School. You may want to change the contact information at the bottom of the notice to suit you needs. After chlorinating the well, be sure to open all the faucets to distribute the chlorine throughout the system then let the system sit for 8 - 12 hours and then flush until all chlorine is gone. After disinfecting and flushing the system, a coliform sample may be taken to verify effective. If you need additional assistance contact either me at 541-891-2935 ACTION NEEDED: 1. Disinfect and flush water system.2. Post Public Notice3. Resample system to verify that the problem was corrected.
