Details: SUMMARY: Water Quality ALERT: COLI14123 SUNNY HILL DAY CARE DETAILS: Cathy, Here are details discussed with Doyle about follow up to the 5/4/15 sample showing presence of total coliforms: (1)Make sure chlorinator is working by testing chlorine strength from a tap. For your system chlorine strength of 0.5 ppm is plenty, 1.0 – 1.5 ppm is ok, 4.0 ppm is the maximum under normal conditions. (2) Add 1 pint of your chlorine product into the 2,500 gallon tank, which will give you another 5.0 ppm of chlorine above what your chlorinator gives. (3) For each faucet, Open one at a time until you know the extra dose of chlorine has arrived. Using the chlorine test kit will make sure you know when it has arrived. (4) Go through the weekend with normal activity and water use (except drinking the water will be nasty). (5) On Monday measure chlorine strength. It would be perfect if the chlorine strength measured the same as it did for (1) when you were making sure the chlorinator was working. Take a sample to the lab if chlorine strength is anywhere between 0.2 ppm to 3.8 ppm. If the chlorine is too low to measure it means you still have not fixed the chlorinator. Do not take a sample and go back to (1). If chlorine strength is stronger than 4.0 ppm open taps until strength is below 4 and then take the sample in as soon as practical. ACTION NEEDED: Take Four total coliform samples ASAP from any tap(s) in the building and mark the lab slip REPEATSTake 1 total colform sample from the wellhead ASAP and mark the lab slip SOURCEIn June take 5 total coliform samples from any tap(s) in the building and mark the lab slip TEMPORARY ROUTINE
