Details: | I spoke to Mr. Gardner about manganese test results from 2/17/21 sampling that were done in response to the letter I sent requesting monitoring due to historical results being over the health advisory level (HAL) of 0.3 mg/L. Two samples were collected from locations in the distribution system (not the entry point). One sample from 9610 SW Bayou Dr was below the HAL at 0.03 mg/L was collected after a water softener. The second sample from 9760 Bayou Dr that was above the HAL at 0.441 mg/L was collected from a garage hose bib not treated with a water softener. The samples were collected to evaluate the effectiveness of treated vs non-treated water as many of the homes have their own treatment systems ranging from softeners to reverse osmosis as manganese is a known issue in the community. Mr. Gardner is familiar with the residents of the community which consists of mostly retired seniors; he was not aware of any families with infants at this time. I sent him our OHA manganese fact sheet, the public notice template that contains health effects language, and the list of accredited labs for manganese testing. He has a contact list for all the users and indicated he would share the fact sheet with them, as well as some private well owners he is aware of in the vicinity. I recommended that monitoring for manganese be done if he becomes aware of homes with infants or elderly with liver disease that do not have manganese treatment. Testing could also be done at these locations if that have treatment to verify its effectiveness. It does not seem that issuing an advisory is recommended at this time as the test result above the HAL does not represent treated water and was not collected from a location where water is used for consumption. | ||
