| Details: | SUMMARY: Coliform Investigation DETAILS: The Mt Pisgah Arboretum owns and operates a ground water system that provides water to the park, including a residence, pavilion and other buildings. The water system is composed of a single well, 3,000-gallon tank, booster pump and distribution system piping. The Circuit Rider was contacted by arboretum staff to provide assistance with locating potential sources of coliform. The system has had Total Coliform positives in various locations in the system dating back to 2010. There have been numerous and persistent coliform positives. There have been no E. Coli positives. There are some obvious potential sources of coliform contamination. This would include the concrete underground water storage tank and a failure of the check valve between the tank and the well. The most likely source appears to be the well itself. Visited water system. Inspected well, reservoir and booster pump station. Provided preliminary ideas and recommendations regarding coliform issue. ACTION NEEDED: Complete recommendations memo for use by the water system. | ||
