Details: | SUMMARY: Disinfection Byproducts DETAILS: Belloni Boys Ranch owns and operates a small water system that pulls water from Davis Creek and treats the water to comply with the LT1. Treatment is achieved through bag filters with post chlorination. The water is then pumped up to a 5,000 gallon water storage tank. From here the water gravity feeds back down to the primary residence. Recently, significant improvements were made to the treatment train in 2012 and 2013 (including chemical and physical pre-treatment). The Circuit Rider was contacted by OHA to provide assistance with disinfection byproducts. The September 2015 sample exceeded the MCL for both TTHM and HAA5. The water system reported that Davis Creek was high in color the weeks preceding the September sample. Visited with Jim Pinson at the WTP. Recommended that Jim consider either reducing or eliminating prechlorination during periods of high color in the creek. Also recommended measures to decrease water age in the system, including using treated water for irrigation and lowering the level in the storage tank. Discussed options with OHA and water system staff. Also reviewed operations and coagulation requirements with Dave Funderburke. ACTION NEEDED: Provide additional assistance with operations as needed. |
