Details: | SUMMARY: Corrosion Control Monitoring Inquiry DETAILS: The Valley Inquiry Charter School (formerly Hazel Green Elementary School) has a well sourced water system which serves 110 students and staff. The Circuit Rider was contacted in 2011/2012 by the Salem-Keizer SD to provide assistance with Lead and Copper Level Exceedences (from September 2011) and associated corrosion control or other actions. Previously provided recommendations to District Staff which included the addition of orthophosphate for corrosion control or the possibility of aeration. Rather than undertaking treatment, the school chose to replace piping and fixtures. Lead and copper tests in 2012 and 2013 were below action levels. However, the testing in September 2014 had both lead and copper levels above the action level. Previously coordinated the securing of cost proposals for CO2 strippers from two equipment suppliers. The costs for the CO2 stripping equipment, along with required ancillary equipment were significantly higher than the costs for other corrosion control systems (such as chemical addition). The school district is pursuing chemical addition for corrosion control. The district’s engineer is completing design of the facilities. Vonnie Good contacted HBH regarding pH monitoring requirements for the new corrosion control treatment system. Circuit Rider investigated monitoring frequencies and recommended methods for complying with requirements. ACTION NEEDED: Provide additional corrosion control assistance as needed. |
