Details: | SUMMARY: Boil advisory due to line breaks DETAILS: Another line break, had to shut off water one valve at a time to locate it and that affected all the distribution area. They issued a boil water advisory on Friday, Feb 3. By today, they had located and fixed the major break (250 gpm) but are using this opportunity to fix a couple other known leaks. After all repairs, they will flush and collect a representative number of coliform samples and wait for absent results before lifting the advisory. We discussed possible funding because the City does not have money for the extra expenses (leak detection and specialized construction equipment needed for recent line breaks and repairs - e.g., crane for line on bridge). The crisis has also highlighted the need to develop better documentation that would assist crews in finding distribution valves and meters under 4 foot of snow. ACTION NEEDED: Notify DWS, ODA and Linn County of the boil advisory. Explore the possibility of emergency funding - special resources may be available because the Governor declared a state of emergency for the January 11 storm, which is when their series of distribution breakages began. |
