Details: | SUMMARY: One filter turbidity spike DETAILS: Jerre Cover contacted me to let me know that Filter 4 had an unusual short-term turbidity spike on Sunday - peak was 1.84 NTU, and the level was over 1.0 for approx. 2 minutes. It was not at a time the filter was due to be washed, nor did the water look dirty when they baskwashed immediately afterwards. Jerre had never seen a quick increase like this in his 5 years there. Their best guess is that some gunk broke loose in the plumbing enroute to this turbidimeter. CBNB uses the highest IFE instead of CFE for compliance because the pump location in relation to their CFE line may distort the readings. Even so, good to note that there was no perceptible change in the recorded CFE levels during this time. Using the highest IFE in this event, there does not seem to be a treatment technique violation because the > 1 NTU occurrence was not one of the required 4-hour readings. ACTION NEEDED: None from a compliance stand point. Good that the operator reported the issue. May send more guidance on the compliance triggers for IFEs and CFEs. |
